Good for Tesco not so certain about the environment

According to the Sun Newspaper this week.  TESCO has created 16,000 permanent roles after doubling its online deliveries during the coronavirus pandemic.

We do live in interesting times.  On the one hand this is great for an economy and job market in the UK that is about to go through an unprecedented time of change.

On the other hand just think about the impact on air pollution and congestion in our towns and cities this is going to create.

 

Prior to COVID19 Tesco had around 600,000 customers that were shopping online now its 1.5 million.

Jason Tarry, Tesco UK and Republic of Ireland chief executive, said: “Since the start of the pandemic, our colleagues have helped us to more than double our online capacity, safely serving nearly 1.5 million customers every week and prioritising vulnerable customers to ensure they get the food they need.

One thing is for certain the climate won’t benefit in the long term.
